                                                                   2013 Calendar of Events


May 27--Opening Day/Colonial Craft Fair:  10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  

     The Tryon County Milita will drill and shoot their muskets.  These Militia re-enactors are
living historians who pay tribute by portraying those early colonists who fought for liberty during the Revolutionary War.    The barn frame loom will be "dressed" for the season by members and weaver friends.  This is a hand-on task that visitors are invited to participate in.  Parking, and entrance to historic site is free.  Donations are accepted and appreciated. 

June 8 & 9--Blacksmith Shop--Hammer-In:  10 am--4 pm.  All blacksmiths invited to attend and demonstrate their speciality at creating items from iron.  The public is invited to watch this preserved craft in action from early days.  Admission to Hammer-in is free, donations are accepted and appreciated.  There will be a charge for admission and tour of historic farmhouse, $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for school age children.  

July 4--Independence Day Celebration and Strawberry Festival:  12 to 4 p.m.  The Declaration of Independence will be read at 1:00 pm followed by a musket salute by the Tryon County Militia.  To add to the enjoyment of the day strawberries, homemade cakes, ice cream, strawberry shortcake and refreshments for a small fee.  

July 26--Stone Soup Musical Concert:  7:00 pm.  Come and enjoy these popular, local musicians play a variety of traditional blues, original folk songs.  There is always a bit of wit thrown in to add a little zing. 
Featured are Susanne Bladek, vocalist and guitar, Dave Bladek on drums and harmonica, Joseph Sinchak on Mandolin, Nick Friers on guitar, Peter Liljeberg on bass.  This concert is held in the Dutch barn where the acoustics add to this musical jamboree.   Please bring a lawn chair for your comfort.   After the concert our site interperters, Dave and Darla Klock will give a late night tour of the historic farmhouse.   The Musical Concert and tour is free.  Donations accepted and very much appreciated.  

August 6,7, and 8 -- Young Pioneer Program: 9 am to 3 pm.  The Young Pioneer Program is an educational program for children ages 9 through 13.  The children will experience frontier life and colonial lifestyles while having a fun time learning hands-on activities.  The program is limited to 20 children so please register in advance.  To register call the fort (518-568-7779).  If no answer, please leave a message. Please register before July 23.  A small fee is charged.

September 7 & 8 -- Giant Two Day Craft Fair:  Saturday  10 am to  5 pm.  Sunday 10 am to 4 pm. Over 100 Talented artisans and crafters will offer their creations.  This is one of the best craft fairs in the entire north east area.  Food is available.  Admission and parking is free.

December 1--St. Nicholas Day Celebraton on Sunday from 12:00 noon to 3:30 pm This rich tradition was brought to America by the early Dutch and Palatine German settlers. It is celebrated at Fort Klock and preludes the holiday season. It is a special day for children as St Nicholas will have a ornament for each child.
Bundle up your family and come celebrate this rich heritage with St. Nicholas. There will be warm fires, spiced cider, hot chocolate, cookies and gingerbread. There will be storytelling, colonial music and militia drills.
